Nan shares her go-to outfit for the spring: jeans, a t-shirt or tank, a lightweight jacket or blazer and ballet flats.
This Spring, I seem to have a uniform of sorts when I get dressed each day: jeans, a solid shirt or tank, a lightweight jacket or blazer and ballet flats.
The outfit is simple but practical and just so easy to wear while bouncing around NYC from meetings to dinners with friends.
One of my favorite instagram follows, @eleanorleftwich, has inspired me to embrace having a ‘uniform’ — she sings the praises of how helpful it is to know what outfits you look best in and then to really build your wardrobe around those styles. That way, getting dressed each morning is much easier. Also, I think it makes shopping easier too because you can stick to certain categories and styles that you know you prefer.
As we all know, my go-to jeans are more or less always from Good American – specifically, my go-to style is their Good Classic style. Typically, I find that their jeans run a bit big, so I order down one size usually. If it is your first time trying Good American, its worth noting you can also buy them at big retailers like Shopbop, Nordstrom and Saks, incase you prefer to order from a retailer where you already have an account (I often prefer that when trying a brand for a first time.)
For basic solid colored t-shirts and tanks – my go-tos are the Slub Jersey T Shirts from ATM or the bodysuits from Nuuds.
For lightweight spring jackets, my first choice is typically a classic blazer like this Black Miller Dickey Jacket from Veronica Beard. To me, it is just such a classic and it instantly helps make an outfit feel more elevated. I also love that Veronica Beard offers extended sizing (02-24) in some of their core styles, like this black blazer. I find Veronica Beard to run slightly small, so I size up one size in their blazers, and order a size 20. (See more style ideas for Veronica Beard Dickie Jackets in this blog post.) Some other spring jackets I am wearing a lot right now is this Alex Mill jacket and this cropped trench from COS.
And the last style that makes up my spring uniform are ballet flats – a wardrobe classic for me! Here I am wearing a gray pair of Chanel Ballet Flats (that I found for a great price on The Real Real.) Truth be told, Chanel flats are really not the most comfortable flats but I just love how they look, so I suffer through the pain, ha! Note, the sizing on Chanel Flats is a bit tricky so I suggest trying on in-store before buying to find your best size, most people size up a half of full size.
When I know I am going to be walking a lot and want a more comfortable ballet flat option, I reach for a pair from Margaux. Margaux Demi Flats are such a workhorse item in my closet, I own this style in multiple color ways and find them much more comfortable than my Chanel ballet flats. (I also love that Margaux offers extended sizing for shoes, size US 4 – 13.)
*Veronica Beard kindly gifted me this blazer. But as always, all these thoughts are my own and I only share about products I truly love and would buy on my own.
